Sumitra Mattai is a writer, storyteller, and textile designer. She holds a BFA in Textile Design from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School. Her essays exploring food, family and culture have been published in the Huffington Post, Scary Mommy, and The Inquisitive Eater, among others.
Over the past twenty years, Sumitra has designed collections for luxury home furnishings brands such as Weitzner Ltd, Scalamandré, and Lee Jofa. Drawing inspiration from her travels, she collaborates with manufacturers all over the world to create bespoke fabric, wallcovering and passementerie.
Sumitra lives in New York City with her husband and two children.
